Another article- Kendall V
This article that I read is titled: Why We Should Read Books Everyday, written by the Young Readers Foundation. This article interested me initially because I am not a huge reader. Most books I find boring or not worth my time- but sometimes a book really catches my attention and I am super interested in reading it. Most of the time, if the book does not have an interesting first chapter, or the first chapter is too long I will not read it. I believe that another reason that I do not like reading is because I am a very slow reader and often find myself re-reading passages because I could not comprehend what it had said. This article names 15 reasons of why reading is beneficial. The reason I find most interesting is reason 7: "reading builds confidence." There is not much of an explanation given as to why reading builds confidence, but in my opinion, reading can build confidence and give people ways or ideas to get through hard or awkward conversations. Books that "inspire" confidence in my opinion would not inspire negativity but positivity. If we turn to the internet (which most do at this age), there is always a lot of negativity that would not inspire anyone but instead cause doubts. Another reason that I found interesting was reason 15 "learn at your own pace." I do believe that reading is beneficial for that, because being able to go at your own pace inspires learning, and does not push hard like other teachers or students might do. Although, I do believe that there is a negativity given if one is a slow reader- like myself. If reading is slow and unproductive, it will be done less often. This article provided some interesting insight on why reading is a good thing to do, and I kind of wish I was more into reading.
