Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture

I thought it was interesting in image and pilgrimage in Christian culture when turner talked about the role pilgrimage played in connecting different distant and isolated societies. Turner claims that many cultures would have never ventured beyond their respective regions and would not have learned of the others existence. I don’t know if you can argue that this was necessarily beneficial but its certainly interesting how historically significant it is.
