Image and Pilgrimage- Kendall V.
The first chapter in this book is called "pilgrimage as a liminiod phenomenon." I had no idea what liminoid meant until I looked it up. Dictionary.com defines it as "a state of transition between one stage and the next, especially between major stages in ones life or during a rite of passage. Then, I looked up phenomenon, which dictionary.com defined as "a fact, occurrence, or circumstance observed or observable." Then I decided to relate these two terms to what we have learned throughout the semester. I believe that some people decide to take a long hike in transitional periods in their lives. While researching the Camino and other trails, a lot of people said that they were at the beginning of their retirement period of they needed a break from the dull lives they were living. I also believe that a hike can be categorized as a phenomenon, where different mindsets can be experienced, and lives can be changed. These two big words simply describe some stages in a long distance hike, which over the corse of this year I have come to appreciate the idea of them, for they have many benefits.
