Outside Reading 1
After spending some time on trailjournals.com I came across these blogs written by a person named Gandalf. Gandalf talks about his experiences on the colorado trail. Gandalf writes about the different people he encounters and he writes about the different elements of nature that he encounters. One thing that I noticed with him is that he questions if he will be able to make it through the entire trail. I find it very interesting that many of these bloggers only begin to question their journey once they’ve already started it. Gandalf said on day 6 of the hike, “Was I physically fit enough? Was I prepared enough? Was I up to the task? But the biggest question I had was ``I'm too old for this shit”. I just think it’s very interesting to see how these thoughts are usually at the back of their head and that the most important thing is that they start their journeys. One thing that I find fascinating is that a lot of times the entire family is involved with these hiking trips. For example, Gandalf spends most of his hike on the Colorado trail with his wife. He also mentions his kids a few times and how he or his wife would leave and meet up with them throughout other parts of the hike. I noticed throughout many of the blogs from different bloggers that for the most part, everyone helps everyone. If you need help along the way so many people will be willing to help, which I think is super amazing.
