Outside Reading 3
For my final outside reading, I found blogs written by a woman whose trail name is Bluebird. Bluebird hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2020. One of my favorite things about her blogs was that she treated them almost as a guide. She wrote some of her blogs on what food to bring, and what equipment to bring, and talked about a ton of facts about the Appalachian Trail. Even though I have no desire to take a hike through the Appalachian Trail, I find it very cool that she gave tips and tricks which could be helpful to others reading her blogs. Out of all the blogs on the Appalachian Trail that I’ve read, hers are my favorite. Her style of writing makes me feel as though I hiked the trail with her. Her blogs relate to our class discussions because she talks a lot about the spiritual journeys that she went through on the trail. She talks about how being out on the trail for months allowed her to reconnect with nature and with God more. After reading all the different types of blogs, I have a few questions: Do they ever get too tired and just quit the hike before they finish it? Do they ever see the other people on the trails after they complete the hike? Have they ever seen anything terrible or has anything terrible happened to them? Having never hiked a trail before, I can’t 100% answer these questions; however, I can take my best guess. I’m pretty sure that people have quit the trails early before, I'm sure some people just jump straight into it with no experience and then give up when they see how hard it is. I feel like for the most part, you wouldn’t meet up with the people you met on the trails. And Finally, terrible things happen all the time, and nature is super unpredictable so I’m almost positive that most hikers have witnessed something terrible or had something bad happen to them.
