Samuel Williams Blog Reflection on Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture
Blog Reflection on Image and Pilgrimage in Christian Culture: November 17th, 2022
After reading the third chapter of the book, I learned about a fascinating pilgrimage that I had no idea existed. Even with growing up Catholic, I had no idea that this pilgrimage existed. Reading about it further made me wish that I learned about this a long time ago. This pilgrimage is the St Patrick's Purgatory. First off, this is an Irish pilgrimage. First thing I thought of after hearing the word Irish was St Patrick the leprechaun. I do believe that these two are connected as St Patrick does have heavy routes both in Ireland and in Catholicism. However, after reading the chapter, I did learn that this is actually a very sacred pilgrimage. Known more as a traditional type of pilgrimage, this pilgrimage goes way back and is extremely sacred and definitely religious based. This is a pilgrimage that is walked by those who are deeply catholic, and not done by lots of tourists. Unlike other pilgrimage sights, this one is extremely religious based, and as mentioned before, not taken by many tourists. After reading this chapter, I wish that I had learned about this pilgrimage in Sunday school as it was extremely interesting to learn about in the book and it would have been a topic where I would have actually participated in.
