Samuel Williams Blog Reflection Review for Dr Samuel Kessler

Blog Reflection for Dr Samuel Kessler: November 7th, 2022

Today, we had a very interesting man come and teach us about some very interesting elements of the Jewish faith. This man was Dr Samuel Kessler, and he is applying to be head of the Jewish department at Christopher Newport University. He came and spoke to our sacred class today when there were several other significant university professors also in the room. Us students in Dr Redicks class acted as the guinea pigs for this new candidate so the other officials in the room could see how he was in front of a group of students. After his lesson, I do have several key takeaways from his performance. Some good, some bad, but overall insightful. First off, the instructor did keep me engaged the whole time. He had lots of energy, and he was very interactive with the students. While he was definitely not a robot, he did like to listen to the sound of his own voice. Therefore, he did talk quite a bit. He is definitely someone who has a large personality, and I can totally see him as someone who can be the life of a party. He also was quite likable. However, there were some cons. Mostly, with organization and clarity. He taught us some very interesting jewish words such as makom, ba-makom, ha-makon, mt moriah, and rashi. While we did learn about these and their significance, there were some parts that were not very smooth. He was a little disorganized. He bounced from one idea to the next without much of a clear transition which did cause me to get confused at times. At times it was unclear when he was moving from one concept to the next, and there were several times when I did get lost and did not understand what he was saying. However, even with all of this, he did keep me engaged the whole time with his personality. If I were one of his students, I actually would enjoy learning from him. I would stay engaged in his lessons, I would listen to his stories, and I would not be scared to ask any questions. Even though I would be asking some questions about clarity as sometimes he would bounce from one strange idea to the next without thorough clarity. Overall, I would have him as a professor. I would take his class, and I feel that I actually would enjoy it quite a bit.
