I recently finished a duology: Six Crimson Cranes and The Dragons Promise, which blends east asian mythology and culture with popular fairy tales to create a magical adventure. Which reminds me of the sacred journeys we talked about in class. Shiori, the only princess of kiata is one of few with forbidden magic. Her stepmother, Raikama, has dark magic and she banishes the princess and turns her six brothers into cranes. Shiori is not allowed to speak, because with every word she speaks one of her brothers will die. So, Shiori goes on a journey, alone, to search for her brothers.
