The Phenomenology of Prayer 11/04/2022

While reading the Phenomenology of Prayer a line from page 15 stood out to me, “ prayer is a deep, quite possibly the deepest decentering of the self, deep enough to begin dismantling or, if you like, deconstructing that burning preoccupation with myself.” While skimming through Notes on Martin Buber I thought these quotes connected to the above quote. “The relation to You is unmediated. . . . No purpose intervenes between I and You, no greed and no anticipation; and longing itself is changed as it plunges from the dream into appearance.  Every means is an obstacle.  Only where all means have disintegrated encounters occur.” (62-63).
