Topic of Choice 4

One of the first topics that we talked about in class is liminal. Liminal means threshold. An example would be if you were standing in between a door way it would make you liminal. The idea of something being liminal is both eerie and kinda cool. When we first talked about liminal meaning thresholds, sleeping or dreaming came to my mind first. When we first lay down to go to sleep our bodies enter into a stage where we are almost half awake and half asleep. We aren’t fully asleep and we aren’t fully awake either, we are in some way both. I also feel like you could make a connection between dreams and liminality. Dreams are a part of our subconscious, we enter into a space where we have very little control over what we are doing. I really enjoyed learning about liminal and I find it very interesting. When it came time for us to write our essays on Covid on the Appalachian Trail, I believe that I also made a connection between walking the trail and liminal. Reading all of the blogs about hikers' experiences and reading their spiritual journeys made me almost think that when these people experience a spiritual awakening it’s almost as if they enter a liminal threshold. They are experiencing both real life and the importance of the sacred place in which they are at.
