What is "Flow"?
In class today we talked about the experience of “flow”. Flow is a state of being that happens when the mind, body and soul (in some cases)are engaged in a feeling of extreme focus. To the point where we get “lost” in a sense of what we are doing or sometimes feeling. Oftentimes you will catch yourself or hear others say “I just got so lost in what I was doing” or I was so out of it that I lost track of time. Most of the time that's exactly what the state of flow entails. It can feel like you're in a place or a position, but youre feeling out of it or extremely in focus. People experience flow in many settings and tasks or situations. An example of an experience was shared by a classmate. They talked about driving to a destination like their house. You're conscious and aware of what you're doing but you don't realize once you're at the destination how you got there. Another example a classmate shared was when youre reading a book but you lack that self awareness to retain the information. I personally have a weekly experience of flow when I am in class or praying. I'm aware of my surroundings but my being isn't. In the spiritual sense of spirituality, time flow is experienced through prayer, meditation, worship, readings, and rituals.
