Landscapes of the Sacred reflection 2

I found it interesting that in landscapes of the sacred, Lane mentions that when it comes to sacred objects the more common the item the more sacred it is. He also says that it is not the object itself that sacred but that it simply is a means to access something sacred. I think this is an interesting idea but I’m unsure how necessary I think the distinction is.
